Spiritual Journaling

What is spiritual journaling? Does it assist spiritual growth?

Journaling is a popular tool for personal development. A daily journaling practice is an excellent way to quiet and organize your thoughts. In this respect, journaling takes on a meditative quality and the benefits of journaling mirror those of various types of meditation.

Journaling for stress relief provides a welcome break. Journaling for kids is a great tool for their personal growth, as well.

Got guidance?
Here is an easy technique to try - taking dictation!

Benefits of Journaling

Spiritual journaling in particular, using specific journal writing topics, enhances spiritual growth in several ways. Here are some benefits of the journaling process:

  • Quiets the mind
  • Focuses the mind
  • Brings forth inner knowledge
  • Relaxes the body because the mind is quieter
  • Allows time for reflection and introspection
  • Encourages emotional expression

You may want to try writing a ‘letter to God,’ or to your soul or Higher Self.

This writing process allows you to deeply express your questions, desires, hurts and fears. The process of bringing forth these feelings and thoughts releases any pent-up energy that has been used to hold them in, and so it can have a very healing effect.

What about taking dictation from God?

Many of us tend to keep our thoughts and feelings inside. Getting them out and writing them down is very helpful in recognizing not only what our true thoughts and feelings are, but also in arriving at sensible, suitable and easy solutions to events and circumstances that may trouble us.

Another simple practice is to choose a spiritual journaling topic each day.

Using this technique, allow your thoughts or feelings about your journal writing prompt to pour forth through the writing process.

Your topic might be about something specific that happened that day, or that you noticed or thought about.

Or, you may choose something more generic and simply allow your creativity to be expressed.

I have a list of topics here for you. And, here is a report with 101 Journal Writing Prompts for Adults.

If you love nature, you can bring your journal with you while you're at the beach or to your quiet overlook spot at the park.

Get a special journal for your spiritual practice. This gives it even more importance. You will enjoy looking back over your journal entries and rewriting your experiences and feelings from a new perspective.

Taking Dictation from God

Audio Lesson - Taking Dictation from God

  • For an easy-to-learn technique, try a process I call
    “Taking Dictation from God”.
  • This involves presenting your questions and then simply
writing down the answers without censoring them or trying to control what arises.

The process was first suggested during a private spiritual counseling session I had with a client and so I created:

  • an audio lesson with an 18-minute recorded class and
  • a journal form for you to record the guidance you receive.

Here's what people say about this audio lesson:

"I received guidance."
"Such a blessing."
"I will continue to use this to deepen my spiritual practice."

Try this enlightening, comforting, revealing and fun practice for yourself!

The cost for the audio lesson and worksheet is $5.00.
