Meditation Mantras |

Meditation using a mantra - a certain word or phrase that is repeated silently or audibly while you are sitting in stillness - is an ancient practice.
Zen and transcendental meditation use specific, prescribed mantras.
Beginner meditation can consist of simple repetition of a word or phrase, used as a mantra.

It seems that depression is somewhat of an epidemic these days. Many adults and children suffer from symptoms of unhappiness - some to the extent that it disrupts their daily lives.
This is where different types of meditation can play an important role.
Meditative practice can be a real help to you if you have symptoms or have been diagnosed with depression . The habit of entering a place of peaceful stillness is a genuine solution to the repetitive patterns of a negative state of mind.

Guided Meditations |

One of the newer types of meditation to become popular is guided meditations. These have several advantages over more traditional practices. They are fast, easy and portable.
There is generally some sort of story involved in them, or the mental creation of some imaginary scene or quality.
These types of meditations are very relaxing and can be used to access higher phases of consciousness just like the silent meditations, and some people like them even better.

Walking Meditation |

One of the unique types of meditation is what I call a walking meditation. This can be done while you are running or walking - or at any time throughout your day when you are doing something repetitive or automatic.
You don’t do this type of meditation sitting down with your eyes closed. Instead, you incorporate a meditative state into other activities. There are several different ways to make this a practice.
You can use a mantra while on your daily walk or jog, for instance. You can use a quality such as 'clarity,' 'peace,' 'love,' or a phrase like 'all is well,' 'God is love,' or 'I am that I am'. Or, use a traditional mantra of your choice.
The timing of your breath and your stride coordinate with the repetition of your chosen mantra.
Depending on the speed of your steps, you simply breathe in and out repeating your phrase or word silently. Or, you could simply focus on your breath itself.
This could even be considered a meditation to lose weight, if vigorous walking is part of your plan!
If you're a nature lover, you will enjoy carrying your various meditation techniques with you when you go out.
I also recommend another form of this walking meditation:
(There is something called walking meditation practiced in Zen Buddhism, as well, which is used in between long periods of seated meditation.)
Books like these offer instruction and insights.
If there are children in your life, introduce them to kid meditation.
